AUSTRALIAN FOREIGN AID SLASHED

Indonesia will suffer the deepest cut from Australia’s plans to slash foreign aid by almost 20 percent in the next fiscal year. Two weeks after recalling the ambassador from Jakarta in protest at the executions of two Australian drug traffickers, the government announced Tuesday it plans to cut Indonesian aid by 40 percent from 543 million Australian dollars ($428 million) to AU$323 million. WHAT WILL THEY THINK OF NEXT?

A priority bill initiated by the House of Representatives has proposed banning all consumption of alcoholic beverages, with imprisonment of between three months and two years for anyone caught consuming alcohol. The bill on the prohibition of alcoholic beverages, a copy of which has been obtained by The Jakarta Post, will put in place a ban on the sale, production, distribution and consumption of all beverages containing more than 1 percent alcohol. Read more from The Jakarta Post here …
